oak frame specification

Our general oak frame specification includes the following:

(please click on the download at the bottom of this page to see full details and section sizes)

English grade green oak which means a high quality oak with very low sap content - this provides longevity for your frame

The Oak frame:

Green oak posts, tie beams, eaves beams, soleplates, curved braces - all made with traditional mortice and tenon pegged joints.

** Please note that some of our competitors do not use an oak soleplate (softwood instead). The use of an oak soleplate will provide longevity to your frame.

Beech kiln dried pegs and 16mm steel pins to brickwork - we can also supply oak pegs at a supplementary cost

Studwork and roof rafters in softwood; roof rafters pre-cut to size with birds mouths

The roof has been designed to carry concrete, slate or clay tiles and in the standard designs, have a 40 degree pitch roof. If you choose a building with a cat slide roof, the pitch changes to 35 degrees on the cat slide.

Cladding: the frame is clad with Vac Vac clear treated softwood weatherboard.  Dimensions: 2 Ex 200mm x 38mm - oak cladding is available if you prefer at a supplement.

Staddle stones: Straight or tapered staddle stones in buff are used on the independent posts, placed between the post and the concrete foundation and are designed to ensure that the addition of garage doors is easy.

Wood Reviver to brush on to the oak frame once the roof has been completed – removes dirt and tannin, leaving the oak a honey colour

Full assembly instructions and ground work layout plans are included as part of our service.

For your information, we recommend the use of special width bricks where your project includes a brink plinth. Please see the listing in our Options section for further details.

Please note that structural calculations are available for our standard buildings on request at no extra cost, once you have confirmed your project.
